Tariq Rahman, acting chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, has returned to his country after almost 17 years. His return after being in exile in London for a long time is considered a big change in the politics of Bangladesh. On the occasion of this historic return, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rehman and 28 year old daughter Zaima Jarnaz Rehman were also with him. His pictures and presence are becoming very viral on social media.
Tariq Rahman boarded a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from London’s Heathrow Airport late on Wednesday night. The flight first stopped in Sylhet and then reached Dhaka on Thursday afternoon. As soon as he reached Sylhet, Tariq Rahman posted on his official Facebook account, “Back in the skies of Bangladesh after 6,314 days.”
Eyes fixed on daughter Jaima Rehman
Tariq Rehman’s daughter Zaima Jarnaz Rehman has been in the news during this comeback. Jaima, who till now had stayed away from the limelight, was seen in public with her father. In the pictures shared on social media, Jaima is seen with her parents. BNP supporters are considering him as the great hope of the new generation, although the party has not yet made any official announcement about his political role.
Who is Zaima Rehman?
Zaima Rehman is the only daughter of Tariq Rehman. Zaima, the granddaughter of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and former President Ziaur Rahman, received a law degree from Queen Mary University of London and obtained barrister certification from Lincoln’s Inn in 2019. She is a barrister practicing in London. Zaima grew up at her grandmother’s house in Dhaka Cantonment and moved to London in 2008 after her father’s arrest.
Tariq’s warm welcome in Dhaka
BNP leaders and workers had gathered on the streets even before reaching Dhaka. Despite cold and fog, a huge crowd gathered on Airport Road and surrounding areas. According to party sources, the supporters had traveled overnight from different parts of the country to reach Dhaka.
