US President Donald Trump, targeting Canada, said that if Canada distances itself from US-backed security plans and moves closer to China, China will swallow it up within a year. Trump’s statement comes after Canada opposed his proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense project, causing a stir.
Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that Canada is opposing the construction of the Golden Dome over Greenland, even though this project would also protect Canada’s security.
He alleged that instead, Canada has prioritized trade with China. He further warned that China would destroy Canada in the very first year. Tensions are evident in the relations between Canada and the United States.
