Every relationship has a different name, food is always ready for guests… Canadian daughter-in-law was surprised by these 5 habits of the family after marriage in Pakistan
Every family in the world has its own traditions and customs, but when a wedding takes place between people from two different countries and cultures, then even small things become big cultural experiences. Cassie, a resident of Canada, has shared a similar experience.
Casey South Asian after marrying Pakistani young man (South Asian) Became part of the family. Recently he shared a video on Instagram, in which he told about those habits and traditions which surprised him the most. His video went viral within no time and thousands of people gave their reactions to it.
1. It is difficult to remember so many names of relatives
Cassie said that the biggest cultural shock for her was the way to invite relatives. He said that they have enough common words like ‘aunty’ and ‘uncle’, but in South Asian families every relation has a different name. There are different addresses for relatives on the mother’s side, different names for those on the father’s side, and also different names for elder uncles, aunts, maternal uncles or other relations. This is not just a name but also a way of showing respect and belonging to relationships.
2. WhatsApp became a part of life
Cassie told that she had never used WhatsApp before marriage. She did not even know much about this app, but after marriage, this app has now become the biggest means of communication with her husband and in-laws. He jokingly said that now his daily conversations take place almost entirely on WhatsApp.
3. Even if guests arrive without notice, the entire meal is ready.
Cassie was most surprised to see the hospitality of South Asian families. He said that even if someone reaches home unannounced at 8 in the morning, the family still has many types of dishes ready. The guests are not only fed food, but the leftover food is also sent with them while returning home. Comparing it with her culture, she said that earlier she thought she was a good host, but after coming here she realized that her hospitality was limited only to ‘cheese and crackers’.
4. Not a hotel, directly to relatives’ house
Another thing that surprised Cassie was that the family members did not stay in the hotel. He told that his relatives coming from outside often book hotels, but doing so is considered almost unusual among South Asian families. If a relative stays in a hotel, the family members ask why he did not stay at our house?
5. Every news reaches the whole family within minutes
Cassie jokingly said that everyone knows someone in the South Asian community. He said that till date he has not understood how the news of the family spreads so fast. He estimates that WhatsApp groups play a big role in this, but the speed with which information reaches the entire family is still surprising to him.
What did people say on social media?
After Cassie’s video went viral, thousands of people reacted to it. Many users said that he has shown the culture of South Asian families in an accurate manner. Some people described the different names of relationships as the most distinctive feature of Indian and Pakistani families, while many users jokingly wrote that South Asian families cannot be imagined without WhatsApp.
