How much charge is deducted and when?
Here is the list of charges for cancelling train tickets online.
Indian Railways is one of the largest railway networks in the world. It is also recognized as having the largest rail network in Asia. Millions of people travel daily on Indian Railways’ trains. It is one of the most trusted and widely used modes of travel in India, connecting even the smallest villages. Not only that, but it is also among the cheapest modes of travel in the country. Calling Railways the lifeline of India is not an exaggeration. Millions of people book online tickets daily. However, sometimes, due to unforeseen reasons, tickets need to be cancelled. In certain cases, passengers may have to pay cancellation charges.
If a passenger’s online ticket is not confirmed, it gets automatically cancelled, and the full amount is refunded electronically to his/her account.
If passengers cancel RAC or confirmed tickets, Railways deducts the cancellation fee from the refund amount.
Indian Railways Online Ticket Booking: Cancellation Charges (before 48 hours)
If a person cancels his tickets 48 hours before departure he will be charged as follows –
- First AC Class: Rs 240 per ticket + GST.
- Second AC Class: Rs 200 per ticket + GST.
- AC Chair Car, AC Tier 3, or AC 3 Class: Rs 180 per ticket + GST.
- Sleeper Class: Rs 120 per ticket.
- Second Class: Rs 60 per ticket.
Indian Railways Online Ticket Booking: Cancellation Charges (between 48 -12 hours)
If a person cancels his online tickets between 48 and 12 Hours before the departure of the train, he will be charged as follows –
- 25 percent of the ticket fare is deducted as a cancellation fee (applies to all AC classes).
Indian Railways Online Ticket Booking: Cancellation Charges (between 12-4 hours)
If a passenger cancel his tickets between 12 to 4 hours before departure, he will be charge as follows –
- 50 percent of the ticket fare is deducted as a cancellation fee.
Indian Railways Online Ticket Booking: Cancellation Charges (within 30 minutes)
If a passenger cancels his ticket within 30 minutes of the departure of the train for any reason he will be charged as follows –
- As per IRCTC’s official rules, tickets cannot be cancelled within 30 minutes of the scheduled departure time. In such cases, the e-ticket is not refunded.
