Cancer is spreading rapidly in children, shocking report of Mahamana Hospital of Banaras

Cancer is found in 72.7 boys and 39.9 girls per million. According to the 2018-19 report, these numbers per million were 59.6 and 23.9 respectively. This has been revealed in the Population Based Cancer Registry 2020-21 (PBCR) report of Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Hospital. According to the report, 2.4 percent of 0-14 year olds are vulnerable to cancer. Lymphoid leukemia (blood and bone marrow) is the most common cancer in children. On an average, 11.9 boys and 7.2 girls per million are affected by it. After blood cancer, kidney cancer is the most common among girls.

Changing lifestyle and environmental factors are becoming major reasons for increasing cases of cancer. In Banaras, 67.7 men and 54.7 women per lakh are affected by cancer. In this, farmers, clerical class/shop operators and housewives are the largest. These numbers are 34.9, 14.9 and 13.8 percent respectively. In Banaras, one in every 13 men and one in every 16 women are at risk of developing cancer in their lifetime.

More patients in cities than villages

According to the report released by the hospital, 4446 cancer patients have been found in Banaras. There are 2514 males and 1932 females. According to the report, among men, most of the patients are suffering from mouth, tongue, gall bladder, lung and liver. These are 17.8, 5.8, 4.5, 4.2 and 2.9 per lakh respectively. At the same time, breast, gall bladder, cervical, ovary and mouth cancer are more common in women. These are 12.4, 7.9, 5.0, 3.9 and 2.2.

According to the report, the number of cancer patients is much higher in cities than in villages in the district. The cancer rate among urban men was recorded at 76.5 per lakh, which is much higher than that of rural men (59.3 per lakh). Similarly, the cancer rate among women is 62.5 per lakh in urban areas, whereas it was found to be 48.7 per lakh in rural areas.

Gallbladder cancer is giving warning

Earlier, breast cancer was the first and cervical cancer was the second most common cancer among women, but now gall bladder cancer is becoming more common. The death rate is also high in this. According to the report, 7.9 women per lakh are suffering from gall bladder cancer. There is a death rate of 7.2 per lakh. Experts say that this problem is increasing due to stones.

43.4 percent mouth and throat cancer

According to the report, maximum 43.4 are suffering from mouth and throat cancer. The cancer affecting the stomach and respiratory system is at the second and third place.

He said that regular screening, abstinence from tobacco, healthy lifestyle and timely treatment are very important. The PBCR report has made it clear that cancer is no longer just a disease but has become a major social and public health challenge.
