Today, that same property is facing legal action as the card company alleges that SpaceX committed trespassing and caused harm while working on neighboring lots.
Cards Against Humanity alleges in the lawsuit that SpaceX operated for six months on their “pristine vacant property” in Cameron County without permission. They are now pursuing $15 million in damages due to the upset.

SpaceX has been active in land purchasing, buying up a lot of the vacant lots surrounding Cards Against Humanity’s property. The company has been hard at work on crafting “large modern-looking buildings,” and it looks like their excitement for expansion might have gotten a bit too personal. According to Cards Against Humanity, SpaceX’s construction not only redefined the landscape but also harmed their property physically. The space company stands accused of taking out vegetation and densifying the soil – solely for creating parking space.

Considering everything, this land wasn’t any kind of normal acquisition. Supporters totaling 150,000 funded it, joining together with a donation of $15 each in an entertaining effort to ‘save America.’ Now, the company is concerned that SpaceX’s activities have created some confusion.
An Offer They Could Refuse
Matters became interesting when SpaceX made an offer to acquire the land of Cards Against Humanity. The catch? The company only had 12 hours to acknowledge the offer, which was for far less than half the property’s real worth. It’s nearly the same as putting your house on the market and having a potential buyer respond with, “Take it or leave it – but I’ll only pay for half the windows!” Of course, Cards Against Humanity chose to oppose the offer through legal action instead.
In a vivid email sent to their 150,000 supporters, Cards Against Humanity described the situation while claiming that Elon Musk “sneaked up on us from behind and completely f–ked your land with gravel, tractors, and space junk.” Clearly, they aren’t holding back in this instance, and it appears they are preparing to take the battle to the legal front.

What’s interesting is that Cards Against Humanity is not the single entity feeling the ramifications of SpaceX’s local operations. Musk’s team has had their share of encounters with the small village of Boca Chica, which is near the contested property.
