Carlos Alcaraz claims Qatar Open title to maintain unbeaten start to 2026

New Delhi: Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz maintained an unbeaten start to the 2026 season after claiming the Qatar Open title in style. Alcaraz raced to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Arthur Fils in the final match which lasted for just 50 minutes as he dispatched the French tennis player. The 22-year-old Spanish tennis player has extended his winning streak to 12 matches in 2026.

This victory comes just 20 days after he became the youngest player in history to complete a career Grand Slam at the Australian Open, by winning all of the four tennis majors. From the opening serve itself, the Spanish ace showcased exceptions skill and athleticism to gain control over the game. He controlled the pace and took care of Fils’ offensive efforts with sensational defensive shots and flawless winners.

Alcaraz explains dominant performance

The title win in Doha brought his tally to 26 tour-level titles. This latest success gave Alcaraz his ninth ATP 500 title, placing him alongside the legendary Andy Murray in the tournament category’s history. The Doha matchup with Fils marked a continuation of Alcaraz’s dominance in their head-to-head encounters, where he now maintains a flawless record, also extending his hard-court winning streak to 30 matches, underscoring his formidable presence on the global tennis stage.

In the post-match comments, Alcaraz said that he was absolutely satisfied with his performance in the early season, also stressing in the vitality of continual improvement. He also recognised the strong start to the year.

For winning the ATP 500 Doha 2026, the Spaniard will take home a total of $529,945 for being the champion. In addition to the guaranteed fee by the tournament organizers just for participating, which was revealed days ago to amount to 1.2 million dollars.
