Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba has opened up about the impact of transfer speculation linking him with Manchester United, insisting the rumours did not directly affect his performances, despite the added pressure he placed on himself.
The 20-year-old has been one of Brighton’s standout players since arriving in the Premier League, with his energetic displays in midfield quickly attracting interest from top clubs. Recent reports suggested that Manchester United were closely monitoring Baleba’s progress, sparking widespread discussion around his future.
Speaking about the situation, Baleba made it clear that the speculation did not distract him on the pitch. “I do not think it affected me,” the midfielder said. However, he admitted that expectations, both external and internal, weighed heavily on him during the early part of the season.
“When I started the season, I wanted to have the same performances as last season,” Baleba explained. The desire to immediately replicate his previous form led to him putting significant pressure on himself, as he aimed to maintain high standards in a demanding league.
