CAS Confirms Senegal Appeal in Explosive AFCON Row

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has officially confirmed that the Senegalese Football Federation has lodged an appeal against the decision to strip Senegal of their Africa Cup of Nations title in favor of Morocco.

According to CAS, the appeal was formally registered on March 25, 2026, marking a crucial escalation in one of the most controversial disputes in African football history. In its submission, the FSF has requested that the CAF ruling be set aside and that Senegal be reinstated as the rightful AFCON champions.

The controversy stems from the earlier decision by the Confederation of African Football, which ruled that Senegal had forfeited the final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory and the title. The verdict triggered widespread backlash, with Senegal strongly rejecting the outcome and insisting the trophy was earned on the pitch.

CAS confirmed that an arbitral panel will now be appointed to review the case. A procedural calendar is also set to be established, outlining timelines for submissions, hearings, and the final decision. While no exact date has been given for the verdict, it is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks.
