A case has been registered against former MLA, former chairman and others in the case of alleged fraud related to land worth crores of rupees in Hathras. It is alleged that an attempt was made to change the status of the land by tampering with the revenue records.

Hathras: A major land related dispute in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh has created a stir in political and administrative circles. On the complaint of former MLC and former Minister of State Mukul Upadhyay, a case has been registered against several people in the case of alleged fraud related to land worth crores of rupees. It is alleged that an attempt was made to change the nature of the land and benefit one party by manipulating the revenue records.

Land dispute takes on legal and political color

This case, which came to light in Hathras, is said to be related to the purchase of land in the year 2009. According to complainant Mukul Upadhyay, his wife Ritu Upadhyay had purchased a land in September 2009, the possession of which was given to her at the same time. After this, a boundary wall was constructed on the land and agricultural activities continued on it for many years.

Later the process of converting the land for residential use was started. According to the complaint, the concerned revenue officers had completed the investigation and prepared the report as per the rules and declared the land non-agricultural and residential. Signatures of the concerned officers were also present on the maps and revenue documents prepared during this period.

However, in later years a dispute arose regarding this land. It was alleged that some people tried to change the actual status and boundaries of the land by making changes in the documents and revenue records related to the land. The complainant claims that this could have affected property worth crores of rupees.

Allegations of manipulation in revenue records

It has been alleged in the lawsuit that in the year 2020, agreements and deeds of the concerned land and other lands related to it were made by some persons. Subsequently, during a civil suit, the description and map of the land was allegedly changed. The complainant alleges that an attempt was made to divert his land from the main road and show it in another direction, due to which both the condition and value of the land could be affected.

It has also been alleged in the case that the records were tampered with the connivance of some revenue employees and officials. The complainant had complained to the Chief Minister, Revenue Council and other higher officials, terming it a planned fraud.

After this the matter was investigated at various levels. During the investigation, questions were raised about the authenticity of some documents and officials conducted a detailed review of the records. Preliminary investigation reports also expressed the possibility of some records being suspicious.

Case registered after investigation report

On the basis of the complaint, the Revenue Council got the matter investigated. Later, a report was also prepared at Aligarh divisional level, in which the possibility of some documents being fake was expressed. After this the Revenue Council instructed the District Magistrate to take necessary action.

The three-member committee constituted by the District Magistrate also expressed the apprehension of tampering with government records in its preliminary report. Calling it a serious matter, the committee called for the need to decide the role of the responsible persons.

On this basis, the police have registered a case against the former MLA, former municipality chairman, other named persons and some revenue employees. At present, the investigation of the case is going on and the police is examining the related documents, revenue records and other evidence.

Officials say that after the completion of the investigation, further legal action will be taken based on the facts. Since the matter is related to land and revenue records worth crores of rupees, the administration is also looking at it seriously.
