Anil Ambani’s troubles increased again, CBI registered a case in LIC case worth Rs 3750 crore; RCom also fell under attack
CBI FIR Anil Ambani In LIC Case: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered a case against Reliance Communications Limited, Anil Ambani, unidentified government officials and other unidentified people. He is accused of causing wrongful loss of Rs 3,750 crore to the Life Insurance Corporation of India. The case has been registered on the basis of a complaint by Life Insurance Corporation of India, in which charges have been leveled under conspiracy, fraud, embezzlement and Prevention of Corruption Act.
The allegation is that Reliance Communications Limited and its management fraudulently induced LIC to invest in non-convertible debentures worth Rs 4,500 crore by making false statements about the company’s financial position, security and assets.
Complaint based on forensic audit report
LIC has filed this complaint on the basis of a forensic audit report conducted by BDO India LLP on October 15, 2020. The report states that RCom and its management misused funds raised from banks and financial institutions, routed funds through subsidiaries, misused sales invoice financing, paid bogus bills, systematically embezzled funds through inter-company deposits and shell entities, created and written off fake debtors and receivables and grossly overstated security. Discrepancy was found between charges and assets.
