CBI team raids ED officer's house, more than Rs 1 crore cash recovered, accused officer absconding

Desk: CBI team raided the house of ED officer accused of taking bribe in three year old Money Laundering Act case. During this period, the CBI team recovered more than Rs 1 crore in cash from the ED officer's house. The ED officer is absconding since the raid, the brother of the accused officer has been taken into custody by CBI who is a manager in a public sector bank in Delhi.

According to the news of Indian Express regarding the CBI raid on the premises of ED Assistant Director, a CBI officer said that during the raid conducted on December 22, Rs 54 lakh in cash and a car were recovered. After which the main accused absconded. His brother was arrested in this case and is in CBI custody. After this, CBI searched the residence and campus of ED office located at Rani Villa in Shimla. Rs 56.50 lakh were recovered in this search. A total of Rs 1.1 crore has been seized so far.

It is alleged that in order to settle the case, the Deputy Director had demanded lakhs of rupees from the accused through a middleman. In this regard, a written complaint was given to the CBI in Chandigarh on behalf of the accused. The matter was related to the Deputy Director of ED, hence a special team was formed for investigation as per the guidelines of the top officials. CBI also organized a meeting between the complaining party and the middleman. In this, recording of money transactions between them was also done. The Deputy Director of ED also got wind of this and he absconded with the middleman. On Monday itself, a case was registered against him by Chandigarh CBI under various sections including corruption.
