Education News: After the release of CBSE Class 12th Result 2026, there is dissatisfaction among students, parents and teachers. Many questions are being raised about getting less marks than expected, especially in major subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths. Many students say that they have performed well in competitive exams like JEE Main, but due to scoring less than 75% marks in the board exam, they are not able to meet the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced. Amidst this controversy, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has now issued an official statement regarding the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.
What is the controversy regarding OSM system?
This year CBSE has implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) and Step-Wise Marking System in the evaluation process. Students and teachers allege that the evaluation process in this new system remained relatively strict, due to which many students got less marks than expected. Some teachers believe that the digital assessment system increases the possibility of differences in interpretation of answers and step marking, which can affect the total marks.
CBSE’s clear answer: “OSM is a completely transparent system”
CBSE has rejected all these allegations and said that On-Screen Marking (OSM) is a completely transparent and scientific evaluation system. According to the board, the main objective of implementing this process is to reduce human errors and make the evaluation of answer sheets more accurate and uniform.
CBSE also clarified that digital technology has been used to reduce the possibility of any irregularity in the evaluation process.
Re-evaluation and verification process
CBSE has given relief to the students by saying that the candidates who are not satisfied with their marks can apply for the re-evaluation and verification process. In the first phase, students can apply to get the photocopy of their answer sheet. After this students can apply for Verification of Marks. If necessary, the option of re-evaluation of answers will also be available.
CBSE has announced the dates for the re-evaluation process. Students can apply for re-evaluation and answer sheet checking from 19th May 2026. The board has clarified that this process will be available for a limited time only, hence it will be mandatory for the students to apply within the time limit.
