Bhavish Aggarwal's troubles increase, CCPA's show cause notice comes to Ola Electric

New Delhi : The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a show cause notice to electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ola Electric on charges of alleged violation of consumer rights, misleading advertising and unfair trade practices. This notice was received by the company through email on October 7, information about which Ola Electric gave to the stock market on Tuesday. Please note that the company has been directed to respond to this notice within 15 days.

Ola Electric has said that it will submit its response to CCPA along with relevant documents within the stipulated timeline. In the notice issued by CCPA, clarification has been sought from the company in the matter related to violation of consumer rights and misleading advertising. Apart from this, the business behavior of the company has also been described as unfair, on which detailed information has been sought.

This notice has come at a time when a war of words broke out between Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal and standup comedian Kunal Kamra on social media platform X on Sunday regarding services and quality after the sale of the company. On Sunday, Kamra had raised questions about the after-sales services of Ola Electric and the quality of scooters, in which he accused the company of not solving customer problems.

Kamra had also tagged the official handle of the Department of Consumer Affairs, highlighting the service-related issues faced by customers of Ola electric scooters. In response, Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal responded on social media and defended the company's services and product quality. This war of words was widely discussed on social media and thousands of people viewed and reacted to Kamra's post.

Following this controversy, CCPA has issued a show cause notice taking action against the company. This step of the Consumer Protection Authority has been taken with the aim of protecting the rights of consumers, in which strict action can be taken against any kind of misleading information or unfair business practices.

Ola Electric has a large market share and sales of the company's electric scooters have grown significantly in recent years. But due to continuous complaints regarding consumer services, the company will now have to clarify its position before the authority.
