Celebrities express disappointment and anger over Trump’s re-election as US president

New Delhi: Handing a shocking defeat to his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, Republican leader Donald Trump has emerged victorious in the US presidential election, securing a second term. The re-election of the 78-year-old leader is being hailed by many as one of the most remarkable comebacks in American history. However, it seems that a few Hollywood celebrities are not pleased with his victory.

On Wednesday (November 6, 2024), actress and film producer Jamie Lee Curtis took to Instagram to express her feelings on the matter. Through a lengthy post on the popular photo-sharing platform, she implied that Trump’s victory signals a likely return to a more restrictive, some fear draconian, time. She added, “We know that many women will now find it difficult to get the reproductive healthcare that they need and deserve.”

Rapper Cardi B also expressed her disappointment on social media, posting, “I hate y’all bad.” The 32-year-old artist was a vocal supporter of Kamala Harris throughout the US election. She recently condemned Trump’s alleged sexism in a powerful speech on women’s rights.

American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish didn’t appear satisfied with the election results either. She posted, “It’s a war on women.”

Donald Trump’s victory

In a close race, Trump pulled ahead of Harris, becoming the first president since Grover Cleveland to be ousted from the White House only to return four years later. According to online reports, Trump secured 277 electoral votes, while Harris received 224. He is also now the oldest person in US history to be elected president. Trump has called the mandate unprecedented and powerful.
