Census 2027: Now India’s census will be digital, Modi government gave green signal to the budget of Rs 11,000 crore
News India Live, Digital Desk: The wait for the country’s census, which was stalled due to the Corona epidemic, is about to end. Taking a historic decision, Modi government has approved the new format of census. A major decision was taken in the Union Cabinet meeting held on Friday that the next census will be completely digital and for this a huge budget of Rs 11,718 crore has also been passed. You will remember that the last census was conducted in 2011 and as per the rules, it was to be conducted again in 2021. But due to Covid and other reasons it got delayed. Now the government has made it clear that this work will start soon. What is the meaning of ‘Digital Census’? This will be the first time in the history of independent India when the census will be done without paper and pen. Till now, employees used to come from door to door, open a thick register and fill the information in it. But this will not happen in the 2027 census. Use of tablets and mobiles: Now government employees will bring electronic gadgets (tablets or smartphones) to your doorstep and all the data will be updated directly on the server. You will also be able to fill the information yourself: The biggest convenience will be that citizens will get the option of self-enumeration. That means, if you want, you can fill your data yourself on the online portal. This will reduce the scope for mistakes. Where will ₹11,718 crore be spent? The government has opened the treasury for this mega campaign. This budget will be used in technology, creating apps, giving digital training to employees and running this process across the country. Its purpose is to collect accurate data so that the benefits of government schemes reach the right people. When will the counting be completed? According to the plan, this process will be done in two phases: First phase: House Listing – It is expected to start in 2025. Second phase: Population Enumeration – This will happen in 2026. After this, the final data will be released by 2027. This new census will not only give us information. The exact number of the country’s population will not only be known, but a clear picture of the changing India will also emerge. This is being considered a huge step towards “Digital India”. So get ready, the next time you are counted, it will not be on paper but on the screen!
