Center of power changed after 80 years, PM Modi inaugurated ‘Seva Teerth’
After about 80 years, a major change has been seen in the government system of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the new PMO complex ‘Seva Teerth’. Now the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and Cabinet Secretariat will function in the same complex. The government says that this will speed up the work and strengthen coordination between ministries.
Journey from South Block to ‘Seva Tirtha’
The government has not only changed the building, but has also made a major change in the names. South Block is now named ‘Seva Tirtha’. Central Secretariat will now be called ‘Kartavya Bhawan’. Rajpath has been renamed as ‘Kartavya Path’ and Race Course Road as ‘Lok Kalyan Marg’. Whereas Raj Bhavan/Raj Niwas will now be called ‘Lok Bhawan’ and ‘Lok Niwas’.
The government says that this change is not just in name, but also in thinking and work culture.
Big offices in one campus
Till now many important ministries and government offices were running in different dilapidated buildings in the Central Vista area. This caused difficulty to the employees in working and also resulted in high expenditure on maintenance.
The new ‘Seva Teerth’ complex has been presented as a solution to all these problems. Here PMO, NSCS and Cabinet Secretariat have shifted to one place. This will speed up the decision making process and files will not wander here and there.
‘Kartavya Bhavan’ equipped with digital facilities
Offices equipped with modern digital technology have been built in Dutva Bhawan-1 and 2. Centralized reception, public interaction area and better meeting space are provided here.
The government claims that this will lead to better coordination between ministries and direct communication with the public will also become easier. The special thing is that the entire building has been designed as per 4-star GRIHA standards, which means this building is also special from environmental point of view.

New PMO with open floor model
The new Prime Minister’s Office is now different from the old system of closed rooms and high walls. It is built on an open-floor model, where employees can work in better coordination with each other.
The Prime Minister’s private chambers and large meeting rooms have also been designed in a modern manner, so that high-level meetings with foreign delegations and heads of state can be easily held.
Overall, ‘Seva Teerth’ has been presented by the government as an example of the work culture of New India and fast administration. Now it has to be seen how fast this new power center is able to implement decisions.
