Center made Arunish Chawla the Secretary of Revenue Department, given big responsibility just before the budget
New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the next budget in Parliament on February 1. Five weeks before this, the Central Government has appointed a new Revenue Secretary. After Sanjay Malhotra, this responsibility has now been given to Arunish Chawla. Sanjay Malhotra has recently been appointed as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Chawla, a Bihar cadre IAS officer, has not worked in the Centre's Revenue Department, but was Joint Secretary in the Expenditure Department. There he was responsible for the Plan Finance Division which deals with all major government schemes.
Let us tell you that Arunish Chawla has done doctorate from London School of Economics. Apart from being Minister (Economics) in the Indian Embassy in Washington, he has worked as a Senior Economist in IMF for two years. Now about five weeks are left for the presentation of the Union Budget. In such a situation, Arunish, as Secretary of the Revenue Department, will have the challenge of balancing the demand of the industry. They will also have to ensure that government revenue is not affected. The government announced the names of half a dozen new secretaries on Wednesday.
Big change of central government
The leadership of the Revenue Department has been handed over to Arunish Chawla while Manipur Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi will now head the Higher Education Department at the Centre. Vineet Joshi's appointment comes a day after Ajay Bhalla was appointed as the Governor of Manipur. This appointment was eagerly awaited by everyone, because Joshi had worked as Additional Secretary in the Education Department and had also headed CBSE and NTA.
Rachna Shah has been made in-charge of the Personnel and Training Department. Shah, Secretary of the Textiles Ministry, is a 1991 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre. In his place, his junior Neelam Shami Rao from Madhya Pradesh, who is currently the Secretary in the National Minorities Commission, will be appointed.
Amit Aggarwal made Pharmaceuticals Secretary
Apart from this, Amit Aggarwal, CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India, the organization that makes Aadhaar, has been made the Pharmaceuticals Secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed Maharashtra's Sanjay Sethi in place of Rao, while 1993 batch Haryana cadre IAS officer Neerja Shekhar was appointed Director General of the National Productivity Council.
