New Delhi : In view of the safety concerns related to the risks of Nimesulide, the Union Health Ministry has banned the well-known pain killer medicine Nimesulide. This ban has been imposed by the Government of India on Nimesulide tablets containing more than 100 mg. The government has announced this decision to ban this medicine citing health risks.
Restrictions under Section 26A of 1940
Let us tell you that this decision has been taken by the Health Ministry after consultation with the Drug Technical Advisory Board. This ban has been imposed under Section 26A of the Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940. According to the Health Ministry, “Consumption of more than 100 mg of Nimesulide medicines can prove dangerous for humans.” Along with this, it was also said that there are many safe options available in the market to get relief from pain. ,

Actually, Nimesulide is a non-steroidal drug, which is used to get relief from pain. However, the government has expressed serious concern on this matter. In 2011, the Health Ministry took a big step and ordered a ban on the use of Nimesulide for children below 12 years of age.
Completely banned in many countries
This medicine has been completely banned in many countries of Europe. For example, in many European countries including Finland, Ireland, Belgium and Spain, this drug was banned in the year 2007 itself. Apart from this, the use of this medicine has been completely banned in Japan, Canada, America, Australia and UK.
