Central Railway earns Rs 459 crore from scrap sale; Bhusawal Division Top
Central Railways | Indian Railways not only earns money through passenger tickets but also through the sale of scrap, the railways earns crores of rupees every year. Central Railway has collected a whopping Rs 459.52 crore revenue from scrap sale in the financial year 2025-26. In fact the target set by the Railway Board was ₹450 crore, but the Central Railway has done well by surpassing that target. This has been the best performance in the last two years.
Scrap sales include a wide variety of materials. This includes 47,502 MT of rail scrap, 31,298 MT of ferrous scrap, 3,616 MT of non-ferrous scrap, as well as 2,65,625 sleepers, 50 locomotives, 78 coaches and 137 wagons. This means efficient disposal of not only scrap metal, but also railway vehicles and equipment. Central Railways
Stores Department of Central Railways played an important role in this campaign. Scrap disposal drives were conducted at Kurla Cutting Yard, Nashik Traction Machine Workshop, Paral Workshop, Manmad Workshop and five divisions of Central Railway. This focused initiative led to a significant increase in revenue.
Bhusawal division is number one in sales by division. The Bhusawal division earned a whopping 105.39 crore revenue from the sale of scrap. It was followed by Matunga Workshop ₹68.39 crore, Nagpur division ₹64.02 crore, Mumbai division ₹55.49 crore and Pune division ₹50 crore. The rest of the revenue came from other divisions and production units.
Another important thing is that Central Railway has not only focused on selling scrap, but also on efficient use of resources. For example, a Rotatech printing machine in Nashik, which was not used but still working, was not scrapped. Instead, it was transferred to a printing press at a cost of 8.75 crores. This proves that Central Railway is working very thoughtfully in asset management.
