Central Vietnam urges residents to stay indoors as Typhoon Trami approaches

Authorities of Thua Thien-Hue and Da Nang have told people to stay home amid downpours and gales as storm Trami approaches.

Hoang Hai Minh, vice chairman of Thua Thien-Hue, requested people not to go out starting 7 a.m. Sunday, except for forces tasked with storm prevention efforts. The Hue Monuments Conservation Center also said it would stop receiving tourists.

Thua Thien-Hue has been reporting rainfall of up to 268 mm from Saturday night, as well as strong winds. Civilians have proactively brought their vehicles to high grounds in case of floods.

In Da Nang, chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Trung Chinh has requested people to avoid going out starting 10 a.m. Sunday, and for people living in vulnerable areas to be evacuated to safer places before 10 p.m. Saturday.

Downpours and gale shave been reported in the city since Saturday night, with people proactively deploying measures to reinforce homes.

Localities from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai have already banned sea vessels from going out from Friday to Saturday. Four aiports in central Vietnam have also closed down.

Storm Trami was located about 100 km away from Da Nang as of 7 a.m. Sunday, with a maximum wind speed of 102 kph, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. It is expected to make landfall in central Vietnam at around 10-11 a.m.
