Champions Trophy 2025: Tournament to be held on hybrid model, at neutral venue against India

Champions Trophy 2025 will be organized on hybrid model, in which all the teams except India will play their respective matches in Pakistan. Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad of Pakistan will be the host venues of this tournament. However, there is no clarity yet about where India will play its matches.

India's first match may be against Bangladesh

According to many reports, the Champions Trophy will start with the match between Pakistan and New Zealand. India can play its first match against Bangladesh on the second day of the tournament.

After this, the most awaited match of the tournament will take place on February 23, when the teams of India and Pakistan will face each other. This match will be played on neutral venue. India's next match is scheduled against New Zealand on March 2.

Group divisions and tournament format

8 teams will participate in the tournament, which will be divided into two groups:

  • Group 1: Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh
  • Group 2: Australia, South Africa, Afghanistan, England

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

India refused to go to Pakistan due to security concerns

India has refused to play in Pakistan due to security reasons. The Indian team has not played a match in Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, in which 150 people were killed. The last bilateral series between the two countries took place in 2012.

ICC's decision: Matches will be played at neutral venues

ICC has decided for the current cycle from 2024 to 2027 that all the matches between India and Pakistan will be played at neutral venues. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the security and political tension between the two countries.
