CM Mann did surprise inspection of roads under construction, show cause notice against contractor

Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday directed for strict action against the contractor concerned after irregularities were found on an under-construction road in Patiala district. The Chief Minister reached the spot and conducted a surprise inspection of Ritkhedi Link Road, where he expressed his displeasure over non-compliance of quality standards in road construction. He ordered the officials to issue a show cause notice to the contractor and immediately stop all his payment processes.

Checked three under construction roads

Apart from this, the Chief Minister inspected three under-construction roads including Patiala-Sirhind Road, out of which work on two was found satisfactory. He directed that all road samples should be tested in the lab so that there is no compromise on quality. Mann said that such surprise inspections will continue across the state, so that the quality of roads built with public money can be ensured.

The biggest road project in the history of the state

CM said that the Punjab government is constructing 44,920 km of roads at a cost of Rs 16,209 crore, which is the biggest road project in the history of the state. A target has been set to complete this work by the end of next year. A maintenance condition of 5 years has also been attached with all the new roads, so that the roads remain safe and in better condition for a long time.

Emphasis on development of roads also

Mann said that emphasis is also being laid on the development of roads in rural areas. The government is constructing 19,373 km of rural link roads at a cost of Rs 4,092 crore. Work is being done at a rapid pace to repair the roads in the areas that have suffered damage due to the recent floods.

He instructed the departments that the works of sewerage, water pipelines, fiber etc. should be completed first, so that the new roads do not get spoiled soon. The Chief Minister appealed to the public to monitor the road construction works and inform the government about any irregularities.

CM Mann warned

Mann warned that no contractor will be spared if shoddy construction is found. He said that the Flying Squad is continuously investigating and many contracts have also been cancelled. The government’s aim is to ensure proper utilization of taxpayers’ money and to lay a network of world-class roads in Punjab.
