‘Chandigarh is not just a city, it is a model of India’s development’, PM Modi praised Chandigarh fiercely.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave further impetus to his development journey by reaching Chandigarh after Jind in Haryana on Friday. PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 10 important projects worth over ₹4,700 crore at a grand event held at Punjab Engineering College. Addressing the public meeting, PM Modi expressed his affection towards Chandigarh and said, “Today, being among you all, my heart is filled with a different happiness.”

Chandigarh: Confluence of development and modernity

Extolling the merits of Chandigarh, the Prime Minister termed it a ‘model of development’ not only as a city but for the whole of India. He said that Chandigarh is known across the country for its excellent planning, wonderful lifestyle and high level medical facilities. Referring to the cultural identity of the city, the PM said that along with these modernities, Chandigarh also has the blessings of Mother Chandika.

Chandigarh becomes lifeline for neighboring states

PM Modi clarified that the development of Chandigarh is not limited to the Union Territory only, but the residents of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are also directly benefiting from it. Referring specifically to healthcare, he said that the expansion of advanced facilities at PGI Chandigarh is proving to be life-saving for millions of people.

₹2,500 crore investment on smart city mission

Reiterating his resolve to make Chandigarh a ‘hi-tech’ city, PM Modi said that in the last few years, modern projects like Integrated Command and Control Centre, Smart Traffic Management, Smart Parking and Digital Governance have been implemented here. The government has spent more than ₹2,500 crore on this entire mission.

It is noteworthy that earlier this morning, PM Modi flagged off India’s first hydrogen train from Jind, Haryana and laid the foundation of development works worth more than ₹ 14,700 crore. In the next leg of his tour, PM Modi left for Jalandhar to take forward the development work of Punjab.
