Through the new HIS-2 system, the contact centers will be able to be connected, through which patients will get registration, billing and other services on a single platform. The most benefit of this will be those patients who come from rural areas and small towns and due to lack of technical knowledge are forced to stand in queues early in the morning to get cards.

Patients coming for treatment at PGI, Chandigarh will no longer have to stand in long queues for making OPD cards. A big step has been taken in the direction of making the hospital services digital and patient centric. PGI has implemented version-2 of its Hospital Information System (HIS) on a trial basis at its satellite center in Sangrur. After its successful operation, it will be implemented in PGI, Chandigarh. PGI was working on this plan for a long time. Through the new HIS-2 system, the contact centers will be able to be connected, through which patients will get registration, billing and other services on a single platform. The most benefit of this will be those patients who come from rural areas and small towns and due to lack of technical knowledge are forced to stand in queues early in the morning to get cards.

According to the hospital administration, in the first step, the modules related to patient registration, billing and admission-discharge transfer have been implemented, which have already been used in daily activities. Apart from this, the trial run on important modules like doctor desk, laboratory services and store inventory management is almost complete, which will be started soon. Director of PGI Prof. Vivek Lal said that with the new HIS-2 system, transparency and efficiency in the work of the hospital will increase. Also, there will be a big improvement in the convenience of patients. Patients will not have to go round different counters for registration, billing and other services, which will save time. This HIS digital model implemented in Sangrur will provide uniform and all services in all the centers of PGI in future.
