Change in schedule of IPL 2026, tournament will start late, final is on this day

A big update is coming out on the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). IPL 2026 will start with a delay of two days. IPL had told all the franchises on 15 December 2025 that the 2026 season would start from 26 March. But now news is coming that the tournament will start from March 28. The final match will be played on 31 May. The IPL Governing Council will meet next week to release the schedule. ESPNcricinfo has reported that there is a delay in releasing the schedule due to the assembly elections.

The schedule may come in two parts

Due to the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the IPL schedule is coming in two parts. A similar possibility is emerging this time too. The IPL schedule may be affected by the assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam. Let us tell you that the second home venue of Rajasthan Royals is in Guwahati, Assam. In such a situation, the schedule will be made according to the elections of this state. It is understood that the IPL Governing Council will take the final decision only after the announcement of the election dates of these three states.

Where will the first match take place?

There is also suspense on where the first match of IPL 2026 will be held. Defending champion Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be a part of the opening match but where it will play is not decided. Last year, 11 people were killed in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s victory celebration. Since then no major match has taken place in that stadium.
