Change of power in Karnataka: DK Shivakumar became the new Chief Minister, took oath with a copy of the Constitution in his hand, know who became the Deputy Chief Minister
Bengaluru. A new chapter was added to Karnataka politics on Wednesday, when Congress leader DK Shivakumar took oath as the Chief Minister of the state. In a grand ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, he took the oath of office and secrecy with a copy of the Constitution in his hand. The Governor administered him the oath of office as Chief Minister.
At the same time, senior Congress leader G. Parameshwara took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. Many senior Congress leaders, party officials and a large number of supporters were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Cabinet also expanded-
Apart from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, 12 other leaders were also sworn in as ministers under the expansion of the Council of Ministers. These include Dr. Yatindra Siddaramaiah, son of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
It is noteworthy that Siddaramaiah had resigned from the post of Chief Minister on May 28. He was the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023 to 28 May 2026.
Journey from student politics to Chief Minister-
DK Shivakumar’s political journey started from student politics. In the early 1980s, he entered active politics by joining the Congress. During the political changes in Congress in 1979, he made his mark as a student leader.
In 1985, he contested his first election from Sathnoor assembly seat, however he faced defeat. After this, in 1989, at the age of just 27, he succeeded in reaching the Assembly for the first time by winning from Sathnoor seat. After this he never looked back and became one of the most influential leaders of Congress.
These leaders also took oath as ministers-
Many senior leaders have been given place in the cabinet in the new government. Those who took oath as ministers included KH Muniyappa, K.J. George, M.B. Patil, Ramalinga Reddy and Satish Jarkiholi are the prominent ones.
The Congress leadership is hopeful that under the leadership of DK Shivakumar, development work in the state will get a new impetus and the party will be able to effectively implement its election promises.
