‘Changed the history of IPL…’ KL Rahul broke Virender Sehwag’s years old record
New Delhi: In IPL 2026, KL Rahul’s storm was seen at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (April 23). Playing for Delhi Capitals, Rahul scored a century in just 47 balls against Punjab Kings. He took full advantage of the lease of life he got on 12 runs and completely took control of the match.

Let us tell you that KL Rahul played a historic inning of 152 runs in 67 balls while thrashing the Punjab bowlers. In fact, last week against Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings did not suffer the loss of three catches.
But this time the easy catch taken by Shashank Singh proved costly for Punjab. Rahul did not stop after getting life on 12 runs. He scored 140 runs only after missing the catch and took Delhi to 264 runs for 2 wickets in 20 overs.

With this century, KL Rahul became the first Indian batsman to cross the 150-run mark in IPL history. He broke the record for the highest individual score by any Indian in the IPL. He hit 16 fours and 9 sixes in his unbeaten inning of 152 runs in 67 balls.
Rahul, who remained unbeaten till the last ball, was welcomed with a standing ovation in the stadium while returning to the dressing room. Rahul scored the fastest century of IPL for Delhi Capitals. He completed his century in 47 balls and broke Virender Sehwag’s 15-year-old record. Sehwag scored a century in 48 balls against Deccan Chargers in 2011.

It is noteworthy that this was Rahul’s sixth century in IPL. With this, he has reached par with Chris Gayle in the list of people who have scored the most centuries. He became only the fourth batsman after Virat Kohli 8, Josh Butler 7 and Chris Gayle 6 to score more than five centuries. Rahul has become the first player in IPL history to score more than one century for three different teams.
2 centuries for Punjab Kings, 2 for Lucknow Super Giants and now 2 centuries for Delhi Capitals too. After completing 150 runs, Rahul gave a special tribute to his daughter. They had plenty of time to celebrate as they dominated Delhi’s innings from start to finish.
