Chaos in Gulf countries due to Iranian attacks, UN hurriedly arrived, demand for immediate debate
The ongoing tension in the Middle East has now taken the form of a major war, where the conflict between Iran and the United States is continuously intensifying. As a retaliatory action, Iran has started targeting American bases in Gulf countries. Along with this, important energy projects related to oil and gas are also being attacked, due to which the possibility of energy crisis has increased at the global level.
Gulf countries turned to the international forum
Alarmed by these attacks, the Gulf countries immediately turned to the international forum. There have been calls for urgent debate on this issue in the United States. According to reports, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates have presented a joint resolution in the Geneva-based Human Rights Council. In this, the drone and missile attacks being carried out by Iran on civilian areas and energy infrastructure have been described as a serious threat to international peace.
This conflict has now entered its third week and its effects are visible across the Gulf region. In the action being taken by Iran, not only military bases but also oil refineries and gas plants are targeted. This has not only increased the threat to regional security, but is also affecting the lives of common citizens. Gulf countries say that they had already assured Iran that their land would not be used for any kind of anti-Iran attacks, yet they are being attacked.
Huge jump in oil and gas prices
The situation became more serious when the fear of closing the Strait of Hormuz emerged. This strait is very important for the global oil supply. Due to its closure or disruption, there has been a huge surge in the prices of oil and gas in the international market. The price of Brent crude reached around $114 per barrel, which was much lower than before the war.
The recent attacks on a major gas facility in Qatar and oil refineries in Kuwait have made the situation more explosive. This gas project of Qatar supplies energy to a large part of the world. Therefore, an attack on it can have an impact at the global level.
The Gulf countries, in their resolution, have strongly condemned these attacks and demanded that Iran stop them immediately. Besides, a demand has also been raised for compensation for the damage caused to citizens, infrastructure and environment. Now the eyes of the whole world are fixed on what action the United Nations takes on this crisis.
