Char Dham Yatra 2026: : Char Dham The holy pilgrimage is going to start on 19th April, i.e. the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya. This journey is to the four most sacred pilgrimage sites of Hinduism – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The doors of Yamunotri and Gangotri will open on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. Whereas the doors of Kedarnath Dham will open on 22nd April and the doors of Badrinath Dham will open on 24th April. There is a religious belief that by visiting Char Dham Yatra, all the sins of a person are destroyed and he becomes free from the cycle of birth and death. This journey not only destroys sins but also gives a deep experience of self-knowledge and provides spiritual peace. Therefore, every Sanatani must visit Char Dham Yatra at least once in his life.

The word Akshay means that which never decays, that is, which never ends. For this reason this day is called Akshaya Tritiya. In Sanatan Dharma, Akshaya Tritiya is also called Yugadi festival. It is celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Baishakh month. Bathing in holy rivers, donating, chanting, penance and worshiping on this day is considered extremely auspicious. It is believed that the virtue gained from these works is inexhaustible, that is, it never ends, but always keeps giving results. Starting any new work on this day is considered very auspicious and successful.

Gold is a metal which never gets spoiled and always shines. Therefore, buying gold on the day of Akshaya Tritiya pleases Goddess Lakshmi and blesses the devotees with wealth, prosperity and grandeur.

Religious reasons behind starting the journey from Yamunotri

Apart from this, this sequence is also very important from geographical point of view. Yamunotri is situated in the westernmost direction among the Char Dhams.
