‘Cheap, AI visuals, cringe copy’: Ajay Devgn & Riteish Deshmukh trolled for recreating Money Heist’s ‘Bella Ciao’ in Dhamaal 4

Bollywood is obsessed with sequels and is trying hard to revive the comedy genre. After Welcome’s sequel, Welcome to the Jungle, the OG Dhamaal has also got a sequel, Dhamaal 4, which was released on Friday, July 10, and features an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Jaaved Jaaferi, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Upendra Limaye, Anjali Anand, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Esha Gupta, and Vijay Patkar.

The film has received mixed reactions from audiences, with many calling the sequel unnecessary and cringe-worthy, while others have slammed its ‘cheap’ AI-generated visuals.

Apart from sequels, Bollywood also has a dearth of original music, and after recreating songs time and again, the makers are now busy blatantly copying Hollywood music.

If the movie is getting called out for the comedy, the makers of Dhamaal 4 are also facing backlash over the recreated version of the iconic Bella Ciao track, widely recognised from the hit Netflix series Money Heist. The song’s use during a treasure hunt sequence has not gone down well with a section of viewers, who believe the classic track deserved better treatment.

The track Paisa Lao shows the cast hunting for treasure, and the comedy of chaos, along with the BGM, has added to the backlash.

Reacting to the sequence, one user wrote, “WTF is this? They are using Money Heist’s ‘Bella Ciao’ song as funny background music. #Dhamaal4 is total cringe.” Another social media user commented, “Kya bakwaas hai ye?” A third user sarcastically wrote, “Yeh to Hollywood ko bhi piche chhod diya. 99 missed calls from Tom Cruise.”

One internet user felt that Dhamaal 4 is the weakest instalment in the franchise, saying it fails to recreate the charm of its predecessors. According to the review, the comedy works only in a few scenes, with most jokes missing the mark. The user also criticised the film’s heavy reliance on loud shouting and exaggerated performances, arguing that the over-the-top approach becomes repetitive and tiring instead of being genuinely funny.

Despite massive backlash, the song Paisa Lao is an infectious, celebratory number that adds an extra dose of energy and playful mischief to the film.
