The journey of ‘Poha’ from fields to the palaces of kings and emperors
According to historians, poha originally originated in Maharashtra (specifically Nagpur region), where it was prepared as a light and energy-rich breakfast for farmers working in the fields.
In the 19th century, this dish reached Madhya Pradesh with the Holkar and Scindia rulers, where Indore gave it a new identity as ‘Indouri Poha’. Today it is tasted in different states of the country in many forms like Kanda Poha, Bengali Poha, Dahi Poha and Karnataka Style Poha with its regional flavour.
