Chhattisgarh: CM Vishnu Dev Sai saw the demonstration of Madhya Pradesh’s new ‘Pressure Irrigation Network’ technology – Keep an eye on every movement of the media world.

Widespread use of this technology will be ensured in Chhattisgarh also – Chief Minister Sai

Chhattisgarh News: Rajesh Rajoura, Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department, Madhya Pradesh Government, gave a detailed presentation to Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai regarding the latest irrigation technology PIN (Pressure Irrigation Network) in Bhopal today. He said that compared to the traditional irrigation methods, this system is much more efficient, modern and compatible with water conservation. During the presentation, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Rajoura told that while in traditional canal based irrigation, about 35 percent efficiency is achieved, in the pressure irrigation system the efficiency increases to 65 percent. In this technique, irrigation is done through pressure based pipelines, which reduces leakage and wastage of water and significantly saves electricity. He also said that in this system the requirement of land acquisition is minimal, due to which the projects can be completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

It was mentioned in the presentation that 13 lakh hectare area in Madhya Pradesh is being irrigated with this technology and the target is to expand it to 40 lakh hectare area in the coming years. This model has not only increased water use efficiency, but has also seen significant improvement in farmers’ productivity and irrigation facilities. Appreciating the presentation, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said that this advanced irrigation technology is in line with the present and future needs of water management. He said, “We will ensure maximum use of this technology in Chhattisgarh also, so that the farmers of the state can get more irrigation facilities and better production in less water. This technology will prove to be extremely useful from the point of view of water conservation, energy saving and quick implementation. Through this technology, one can get the benefits of irrigation even without acquiring land.” Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai gave directions to the departmental officers for study, testing and phased implementation of this technology.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Mr. Subodh Singh, Chief Engineer of Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Department, Mr. Vinod Deora, Superintending Engineer, Mr. Vikas Rajoria and Superintending Engineer, Mr. Shubhankar Biswas were also present. It is noteworthy that in traditional canal based irrigation, a large part of the water gets wasted due to leakage, evaporation and uncontrolled flow, due to which the actual water supply to the fields is limited and uniform irrigation is not possible in the entire command area. Generally the overall irrigation efficiency of the traditional system is considered to be only 35 percent. On the other hand, in PIN (Pressure Irrigation Network) system, water is delivered directly to the fields through pipelines with controlled pressure, due to which wastage of water becomes almost zero. With this technology, irrigation efficiency increases to more than 65 percent, which is extremely important for both water conservation and increasing production.

Since irrigation in PIN system is completely pipeline based, the need for canal construction is reduced and land acquisition is also minimal. This reduces the cost of projects and the works are completed on time. This technology has higher pumping efficiency compared to conventional irrigation, resulting in significant electricity savings. Due to uniform pressure distribution of water, the tail end areas of the fields also get adequate water. This system provides wide ranging benefits like increase in productivity of crops, improvement in water management and increase in income of farmers.
