Special focus on Raipur, Bilaspur and Durg, instructions to reduce accidents

Chhattisgarh News: Road Safety Month 2026 is being celebrated in Chhattisgarh as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. Under the guidance of the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, lead agency Road Safety is organizing daily public awareness programs across the state, the objective of which is to reduce road accidents and motivate people for safe traffic.

Government’s active initiative

Awareness posters and flaks related to road safety have been issued by State Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai and Transport Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap. Along with this, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma has appealed to all the Sarpanches and Panches of the state to take necessary steps to prevent road accidents in their Panchayat areas and spread awareness at the rural level.

Chhattisgarh News: Campaign launched with helmet rally

Road Safety Month was formally inaugurated on 01 January 2026 in Bemetra. On this occasion, Honorable Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, Chairman-Supreme Court Committee of Road Safety, inaugurated the campaign by flagging off the helmet rally. Through this rally, the message was given to the people to wear helmet and drive safely.

High level meetings and action planning

On January 03, a meeting of divisional level officers was organized in Durg, in which Divisional Commissioner, Inspector General of Police, Collector, Superintendent of Police and officers of various departments participated. After this, a meeting of departmental secretaries was held in the presence of Chief Secretary Shri Vikassheel at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan on January 05, in which instructions were given to make a concrete action plan to prevent road accidents and implement it effectively. Special focus was placed on high accident districts like Raipur, Bilaspur and Durg.

Positive results of year 2025

In the year 2025, there has been a decrease in the death rate due to road accidents in the state as compared to the previous year. About 45 percent more action was taken in cases of traffic violation, in which about 9 lakh cases were registered and settlement fee of about Rs 39 crore was collected. Due to public awareness campaigns, the death rate in the state has decreased by about 3 percent and the situation has seen improvement in 20 districts.

Chhattisgarh News: Target set for the year 2026

The government has set a target of reducing the death rate due to road accidents by at least 10 percent by the year 2026. Along with this, special emphasis is being laid on speedy corrective work in accident prone road sections, better road indicators and strengthening of quick response system for emergency treatment.

Public awareness activities of traffic police

During Road Safety Month 2026, the traffic police is making drivers and passengers aware through different activities every day. Those driving without helmet, without seat belt, while talking on mobile, under influence of alcohol or at high speed are being counseled and motivated to follow the traffic rules. Besides, a positive message is also being given by honoring the citizens who follow the rules.
