Chhattisgarh News: Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (DHDKGYLD), launched from 2025-26, aims to increase the income and agricultural productivity of 1.7 crore farmers in 100 low-performing agricultural districts, for which 36 schemes of 11 ministries have been coordinated. It focuses on irrigation, storage, easy credit and crop diversification to make farmers self-reliant.

extremely beneficial for farmers

Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), run under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the farming-based district Jashpur, is proving to be extremely beneficial for the farmers. Due to the agriculture-oriented policies of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and fast implementation of schemes in the state, farmers are getting extensive benefits of modern technology, better seeds, irrigation assistance and continuous guidance of the Agriculture Department. Due to this, farmers are now getting more production at lower cost. Farmer Sudhir Lakra (Uraon) of Bagicha development block of the district has emerged as a direct beneficiary of this scheme.

Sudhir Lakra has a total of 3.400 hectares of land, in which he has got the benefits of various government schemes from time to time. Summer maize program under Atma Yojana, availability of tractors and agricultural equipment from DMF item and solar irrigation facility under Saur Sujala Yojana have made their cultivation easy and low cost. With the support of the Agriculture Department, they got the opportunity to adopt modern farming methods, which improved their productivity.

Increase in farmer’s income

Under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, the local agricultural extension officer advised him to cultivate pre-seed grade maize instead of paddy. He planted the crop in 0.400 hectare area with 08 kg maize seeds provided free of cost by the department. As a result of proper care, nutritious fertilizers, medicines and technical guidance, he got a production of about 10 quintals, taking his total income to about Rs 15,000.

Use of modern technology in agriculture is getting a boost

Through the (PMDDKY) scheme, increase in crop production in the area, improvement in irrigation facilities, development of storage capacity and use of modern technology in agriculture are being promoted. Along with strengthening self-reliance in grains, pulses and oilseeds, this scheme is also playing an important role in mechanization, organic farming and the goal of doubling the income of farmers.

Help in improving crop quality

Sudhir Lakra says that this scheme has changed the nature of his farming. The training, improved seeds and timely advice received from the department helped in improving the quality of their crops. He said that this farmer-friendly scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the support being received by the agriculture sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has proved important in increasing their income.

Special emphasis on linking agriculture based employment

The objective of Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana is to double the income of farmers by the year 2030 by modernizing and empowering the agricultural sector. Under the scheme, steps like increase in production by 20-30 percent through quality seeds and technology, self-reliance in grains-pulses-oilseeds, reduction in dependence on monsoon through drip/sprinkler irrigation, expansion of storage capacity to reduce post-harvest losses to 5 percent, promotion of organic agriculture and mechanization are included. Besides, special emphasis has also been laid on connecting women and youth with agriculture-based employment by supporting them in activities like dairy, fisheries and poultry farming.
