Ranchi: The state government has announced a big relief for the candidates of Jharkhand Public Service Commission’s Combined Civil Services Competitive Examination 2025 (14th JPSC). Just before the lunch break on the fourth day of the budget session, Chief Minister Hemant Soren informed the House that the government has decided to consider the cut-off year for age relaxation assessment from the year 2022 instead of the year 2026. The MLAs present in the House welcomed the government’s decision by thumping the table. Earlier, the last date for applying by the Commission was 20th February, which was valid only till 5 pm on Friday. It is clear from the announcement of CM that the date for applying will be extended.

Why were the candidates worried about the cut-off?

Actually, Jharkhand Public Service Commission had fixed the age limit calculation i.e. cut-off date for the year 2026 for the 14th JPSC. Due to this, a large number of candidates who were eligible as per the earlier examinations and rules were disqualified from filling the examination form. The petitioners said that relaxation in the upper age limit was given in the combined civil services examinations of 2016 and 2017, while there was a provision for relaxation in the upper age limit in the 2021 rules also. Despite this, due to keeping the cut-off at 2026, the future of thousands of candidates hung in balance.
The matter reached the High Court

A large number of candidates had approached the Jharkhand High Court against the cut-off year. The court had allowed all the petitioners to fill the examination form and directed JPSC to file a reply. Also, it was made clear in the interim order that the result of these candidates will not be published without the permission of the court. The next hearing of this case is scheduled for April 1.

The issue was raised in the house

This entire issue was raised prominently in the Assembly by Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Yadav. On this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Radha Krishna Kishore had assured the seriousness of the government. Now with the announcement of the Chief Minister, the candidates have got a big relief. The decision to reduce the cut-off year from 2026 to 2022 will benefit all those candidates who were deprived of appearing for the exam only because of age limit.
Demand of MLA Jairam Mahato

After the announcement by the Chief Minister, JLKM MLA Jairam Mahato appealed to the CM to show big heart and demanded to fix the cut-off date before 2020. He said that in the last 25 years, JPSC has conducted only 13 civil services examinations in Jharkhand. Therefore, to ensure that the future of the meritorious students of the state is not spoiled, it is necessary that Chief Minister Hemant Soren shows great courage and sets the age cut-off date before 2020. JMM MLA Hemlal Murmu said that the Chief Minister himself made this big announcement in the House to resolve the ongoing age limit dispute regarding the 14th Combined Civil Services Examination. Hemlal Murmu welcomed this decision of the government and expressed hope that it will provide relief to the candidates. On the question whether the government will provide further relief, Murmu said that the decision will have to be taken by the Chief Minister.
