Chilling True Crime Movie Arrives on Netflix Today
A brand new true crime documentary movie has just been officially added to Netflix‘s library. As of today, December 30, Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story is now available to stream for Netflix subscribers.
What do we know about Netflix’s new true crime movie?
“Unraveling the case of Utah therapist Jodi Hildebrandt, whose child abuse arrest with parenting YouTuber Ruby Franke exposed a twisted tale of manipulation,” reads the documentary’s official synopsis.
Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story is directed by Skye Borgman. This marks the filmmaker’s latest collaboration with Netflix. Before Evil Influencer, Borgman also previously directed episodes of the Unsolved Mysteries reboot, Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser, American Murder: Laci Peterson, and Sins of Our Mother. She also directed Netflix documentary movies like Unknown Number: The High School Catfish and My Father, the BTK Killer, which were both released this year. She’s also best known for directing the 2017 documentary movie Abducted in Plain Sight, which explored the story of Jan Broberg.
In 2023, Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse after one of Franke’s children escaped through the window and went to ask a neighbor for food and water. Before their arrest, they were known as business partners who launched a parenting YouTube channel called ConneXions in 2022. This won’t be the first time that Hildebrandt and Franke’s case received a documentary, as Investigation Discovery also previously produced the docuseries, Ruby & Jodi: A Cult of Sin and Influence, last September.
