‘Dragon’ irked at Pentagon report, said- America is trying to weaken the relations between India and China, claims are false and misleading

China on Pentagon report over India China relations: China on Thursday Pentagon report which alleged that Beijing was trying to weaken US-India relations by reducing border tensions with India. China described these claims as completely false and said that this report is an attempt to create differences between the countries.

During a media briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said, “This Pentagon report China It distorts America’s defense policy, spreads mistrust between China and other countries, and creates excuses to maintain America’s military dominance. China strongly opposes this.”

China’s statement on LAC

On the question regarding Line of Actual Control (LAC), Lin Jian clarified that the border dispute is entirely a matter between India and China. He said that the current situation is stable and the channels of communication between the two countries are working smoothly. Lin Jian said, “The border question is a matter between China and India. The current border situation is generally stable and the channels of communication are open.”

What did the Pentagon report say?

In its annual report ‘Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China 2025’ submitted to Congress, the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has claimed that China wants to stabilize relations with India by reducing tension on the LAC, so that the increasing strategic proximity between America and India can be stopped. The report also mentions the meeting of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the BRICS summit in October 2024.

‘Core Interest’ and the context of Pakistan

According to the Pentagon report, China has expanded the definition of its ‘core interest’ to include Taiwan as well as the South China Sea, Senkaku Islands and Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from this, while underlining the defense and space cooperation between China and Pakistan, the report also said that Beijing may have considered setting up a possible military base in Pakistan.

Sharp reaction from Chinese Defense Ministry

Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang also rejected the findings of the report, calling it biased. He said the report exaggerates the so-called ‘Chinese military threat’ and misleads the international community. Zhang appealed to America to desist from spreading false narratives and promoting conflict.

Beijing’s stance on India-China relations

Responding to the comments made in the report on India-China relations, Lin Jian said that China views its relations with India from a long-term and strategic perspective. He said, “China is willing to strengthen communication with India, enhance mutual trust, advance cooperation and handle differences responsibly. Our goal is to pursue a healthy and stable bilateral relationship.” After China’s strong reaction to the Pentagon report, the US-China-India triangular equation and the strategic politics of the Asia-Pacific region have once again come into the center of discussion.
