First came Taiwan’s leader, now China also made big announcements; Both countries are reducing tension like this

China Taiwan Relations: Relations between China and Taiwan Things seem to be improving because China has announced the resumption of some relations with Taiwan. Under this decision, it has been said to resume direct air flights between the two and to restart the import of Taiwanese marine products. This step has been taken at a time when the visit of the leader of Taiwan’s opposition party to Beijing has ended.

The Taiwan Work Office, which works under the Communist Party of China, issued a statement saying that it will also consider creating a long-term dialogue mechanism with Taiwan’s opposition Kuomintang Party. The announcement came after a high-profile meeting at which Kuomintang leaders Cheng Li-wun Met President Xi Jinping in Beijing. In this meeting, both the leaders talked about maintaining peace, although no concrete agreement was revealed.

Is Taiwan occupied by China?

Taiwan is a self-governing territory, but China claims sovereignty over it. Relations between the two deteriorated in 2016, when Tsai Ing-wen’s Democratic Progressive Party came to power. After this, China almost stopped official communication with Taiwan and increased military activities.

Now China has said that it will resume direct flights to Taiwan from cities like Xi’an and Urumqi. However, it is not yet clear when and how these schemes will be implemented. Apart from this, China has also said to work on the construction of a bridge connecting the islands of Matsu Islands and Kinmen located close to Taiwan. This project has been in discussion for a long time.

Will the restrictions on Taiwan be lifted?

China had banned the import of pineapples from Taiwan in 2021, after which grouper fish, squid, tuna and many other marine products were also banned. Now steps are being taken towards partially removing these restrictions. The Taiwan government has also responded by saying that it will continue to help its farmers and businesses find markets in other countries, so that dependence on China can be reduced.

This step is considered an important change amid the long-running tension between China and Taiwan. However, experts believe that complete improvement in their relations is still a long way off.
