China’s attack on satellite network, discussion of new HPM weapon intensifies

China has claimed to have developed high-power microwave weapons, which can disable satellites and electronic systems without bombs or missiles. It is being considered as a weapon that will change the direction of modern war.

World News: In the world of weapons, China has once again attracted the attention of the entire world including America and Europe by making a big claim. Chinese scientists have talked about developing a weapon that can neutralize enemy targets without gunpowder, bombs or missiles. It is being claimed about this weapon that it has the capability to destroy even satellites present in space. This technology is being considered as a step changing the direction of modern warfare.

Discussion under the name Invisible Hunter

The weapon that China has claimed to have developed is said to be High-Power Microwave i.e. HPM weapon. Chinese scientists are calling it the Invisible Hunter. It means a hunter who attacks without being visible. According to reports, this weapon directly targets electronic systems and de-links them. Like conventional weapons, there is no explosion in it, but the effect can be extremely fatal.

Fear of threat to Starlink network

According to Chinese media reports, this system can also disable the Starlink satellite network of Elon Musk’s company SpaceX. For this reason it has come to be called Starlink Killer. Experts believe that if this technology is successful, America’s satellite-based communication and surveillance capability could suffer a major blow. Starlink is used in military communications, drone operations and real-time surveillance.

Reference related to Taiwan crisis

This claim has come at a time when there is tension regarding the Taiwan Strait. Beijing fears that in the event of any possible conflict, America could give its allies a strategic edge by using networks like Starlink. China’s military strategists believe that if the satellite network is disabled in the beginning, the enemy’s combat capability can be greatly weakened.

Lessons learned from Russia Ukraine war

Starlink’s role in the Russia-Ukraine war attracted worldwide attention. The Starlink service was launched by Elon Musk at the request of the President of Ukraine shortly after Russia’s attack in February 2022. This gave Ukraine a strong communication system during the war. After this experience, many countries have started considering satellite networks as an important weapon of war. China also seems to be preparing its strategy in this direction.

TPG1000Cs System Information

According to the report of Eurasian Times, scientists of Northwest Institute of Nuclear Technology i.e. NINT based in Xi’an, China have developed a system named TPG1000Cs. It is said to be the world’s first compact high-power microwave driver. Scientists claim that this system can generate 20 GW of power in one minute. It is capable of generating about 3000 high-energy pulses in a single session.

Comparison with Russia’s Sinus-7

Russia’s Sinus-7 system has long been considered the most powerful of the microwave weapons. Sinus-7 weighed about 10 tons and worked for only one second. It could give only about 100 pulses in one burst. In comparison, the length of TPG1000Cs is said to be around 4 meters and its weight is around 5 tonnes. It can be deployed on trucks, warships, aircraft or satellite platforms.

Multi platform deployment capability

The NINT team claims that the TPG1000Cs have generated more than two lakh operational pulses so far. This proves its credibility. Experts believe that this figure is very important for any weapon. The biggest strength of this technology is that it can be used from any platform on land, sea, air and space.

Features of microwave weapons

The biggest feature of microwave weapons is that they do not leave debris like conventional weapons. These weapons directly target electronic systems. Satellites, radar, communication systems and control units can be disabled without any explosion. In many cases this attack is not even visible, due to which the enemy takes time to estimate the damage.

China’s strategic thinking

According to reports, the development of TPG1000Cs is part of China’s broader strategy under which Beijing is developing weapons to counter satellite networks. Chinese military experts believe that networks like Starlink can be used for surveillance and reconnaissance in peacetime. In the event of war, this network gives a strategic edge to the enemy.
