Charging electric vehicles takes time. This is also a headache for the drivers. Chinese company Beijing Automotive Group Company Limited (BAIC) has found a solution to this. BAIC has announced a major breakthrough in the development of sodium ion battery technology. BAIC is one of the leading car manufacturing companies in China. The company manufactures both electric and ICE cars.

The company’s research division has informed that a prototype of sodium ion battery has been prepared, whose energy density is 170 Wh/Kg. It supports 4C fast charging. It is being told that it takes 11 minutes to get fully charged. This is the time taken during battery testing, which may differ in the real world. It has been designed to work at different temperatures.

will work at low temperatures

The battery will work well even at low temperatures. It has been designed to work from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius. The car manufacturing company claims that the battery retention is around 92 percent even at minus 20 degrees. This makes it clear that it can be used at low temperatures. The surprising thing was that during testing the battery remained stable even at 200 degrees Celsius.

BAIC has filed about 20 patents related to this program. These patents are related to material, cell design, manufacturing process and testing. Along with this, the company is working on charging strategy, electrochemical modeling and battery degradation.
