Chinese man goes viral for sharing life as ‘kept man’ supported by Japanese wife

His real name and age remain unknown, but his candid posts have attracted 1.4 million followers, showcasing a lifestyle where he spends his days playing video games at home while his wife covers all the household expenses.

Sudden Fantasy describes himself as an ordinary man from Beijing, while his wife, Fenghua, is well-educated, employed, and comes from a wealthy Japanese family. Her mother has traveled extensively around the world, adding to her privileged background.

In traditional Japanese society, men typically provide financial support while women handle domestic duties. However, this couple defies that norm.

In one of his videos, Sudden Fantasy shares how he stays in bed until noon on Sundays to wake up with his wife, explaining that getting up early might make her feel anxious. He also stays close while she does household chores, ready to assist if needed, believing that his presence prevents her from feeling burdened with the responsibilities alone.

He even takes care of small tasks, like drying the bathroom floor before his wife uses it, explaining: “You have no idea how uncomfortable it is to step on cold tiles after a long workday. A good mood can be ruined instantly. So, I make sure the bathroom is dry before she uses it.”

Sudden Fantasy explains that being a “kept man” isn’t just about doing things for his wife but about creating a harmonious life together.

His practical approach has resonated with viewers. One commenter wrote: “This isn’t about being a kept man – it’s about respecting women, being considerate, and demonstrating emotional intelligence.”

Another joked: “It’s like paying for one person’s meals but getting a nanny and an emotionally supportive partner in return. Honestly, it’s not a bad deal – I want one too!”

Originally from Beijing, Sudden Fantasy has been living in Japan for 8 years. Initially, he was reluctant to date Fenghua due to his financial struggles, but after two and a half years of dating, they got married. Earlier this year, he left his job to fully embrace the role of a kept man.

Fenghua supported him through tough times, covering his tuition fees and bringing him food. Now, she provides him with 260,000 yen (US$1,740) per month for daily expenses, an amount he says he cannot repay because “it would make her cry.”
