A 38-year-old woman from China has been charged in Singapore after she allegedly attempted to give bribe of S$100 (US$78.61) to an immigration officer at Changi Airport last year.

Kong Zhenni was charged on March 10 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Mothership reported citing a statement from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau.

Prosecutors allege that Kong offered bribe to an inspector from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority at Changi Airport Terminal 4 on Dec. 26 in an attempt to gain entry into the country, Asia One reported.

The officer rejected the alleged bribe.

Singapore, known for its strict laws, maintains a strict zero-tolerance stance toward corruption.

Under the law, anyone convicted of corruption can face a fine of up to S$100,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to five years.
