Chitty Chitty Bang Bang remake to be helmed by Matthew Warchus

Recently, we reported that Amazon MGM Studios and Eon Productions are developing the remake of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The reimagining of the classic is all set to be helmed by Matthew Warchus (Matilda: The Musical). The film’s script is penned by Enda Walsh, who is known for writing the screenplay for the recently released Cillian Murphy-starrer Small Things Like These.

The 1968 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang starred Dick Van Dyke in the lead. A musical fantasy film made for kids, the film is adapted from a children’s book by Ian Fleming, known for creating James Bond.

Ken Hughes directed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which was written by Roald Dahl, Ken Hughes, and Richard Maibaum. Backed by Albert Cubby Broccoli, the film follows Caractacus Potts, an eccentric widower and inventor, and his children, who rescue a discarded racing car with enchanting powers in rural pre-war England. The title song of the film received an Oscar nomination.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang evolved into a stage musical, featuring six additional songs by the Sherman brothers, the film’s original composers. After debuting in London (2002), it premiered on Broadway (2005), followed by tours in the US, Australia, Singapore, Germany, and ongoing UK performances.

Amazon MGM and Eon Productions, the powerhouse behind the James Bond film franchise, continue their collaboration. Following Daniel Craig’s departure as 007 in the 2021 film No Time to Diea global search is underway to cast a new Bond.
