Chris Diamantopoulos talks about being one of only five people to voice Mickey Mouse
Chris Diamantopoulos finds himself in rare company as one of only five actors in Disney’s 101-year history to voice the iconic Mickey Mouse, calling the experience both surreal and humbling. The 49-year-old actor, known for his diverse roles, including a mobster in Amazon Prime Video’s The Stickyexpressed his deep appreciation for the unexpected opportunity.
Reflecting on his career, Diamantopoulos admitted that while he envisioned many paths, voicing Mickey Mouse was never one he anticipated. “It’s so strange. There are a lot of things I could have imagined doing as a kid, but playing Mickey was a massive left turn,” he shared with People.
Diamantopoulos described the honour as deeply humbling, acknowledging the legacy left by his predecessors, including Walt Disney himself, Wayne Allwine, Les Perkins, and Bret Iwan. “I barely finished high school, and to be the fifth voice of Mickey after Walt Disney—it feels like a badge of honor,” he said.
He credited much of Mickey’s enduring charm to the creative forces behind the scenes. “The voice may be Mickey, but the expressions and personality are thanks to the brilliant animators and writers, like Paul Rudish,” Diamantopoulos explained. “This version of Mickey feels like the freest Mickey we’ve seen.”
Beyond television, Diamantopoulos also lends his voice to Disneyland’s Mickey’s Magic Railway ride, the first attraction centered on the beloved character. Sharing this experience with his family, including his wife Becki Newton and their four children, adds another layer of joy. “Taking my kids on the ride where they hear my voice guiding them—it’s an absolute dream,” he said.
Diamantopoulos emphasized that each opportunity to voice Mickey reignites his love for the entertainment industry. “It’s the magic of it all—that feeling when we escape into fantasy—that reminds me why I got into this business.”
