New Delhi: Every year on 25 December, Christmas is celebrated all over the world with great joy, enthusiasm and reverence. This day commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity. Christmas is not only a celebration but also gives the message of love, sacrifice and faith. The miracles of Jesus recorded in the Bible still remain the center of people’s faith. One of these is his first miracle, when he converted water into wine.

According to the Bible, a wedding ceremony was held in the city of Cana in the Galilee region. Jesus Christ, his mother Mary and his disciples also participated in this marriage. During the ceremony the liquor suddenly ran out, which was considered a very socially awkward situation at that time. Seeing this problem, Mary prayed to her son Jesus for help.

In the beginning Jesus said that his time had not yet come, but because of his mother’s humility and faith he decided to reveal his divine power. He instructed the servants present there to completely fill the six stone pitchers kept nearby with water. These pitchers were used for purification in Jewish tradition.
Amazing moment of turning water into wine
When the servants took out water from the pitchers and gave it to the chief to taste, the water had turned into wine of excellent quality. The chief was surprised to see this and told the groom that usually good wine is served first, but here the best wine is served at the end. The reputation of the marriage ceremony was also saved by this incident.
Deep spiritual meaning hidden behind the miracle
This miracle did not just mean the solution of a problem. Its spiritual message was that Jesus had come to bring about spiritual transformation beyond external purification. Water was a symbol of the Old Testament and traditions, while wine was considered a sign of new life, joy and God’s grace.
The first sign to strengthen faith
This miracle is described in John chapter 2 of the Bible and is considered the beginning of Jesus’ public life. After this incident the faith of his disciples became even stronger.
