133 people hospitalized after food poisoning in Myanmar

Yangon, Sep 19 (IANS) A total of 133 people in Oktwin town in Myanmar's Bago region have been hospitalised after suffering from food poisoning, the State Administration Council's information team said.

The incident took place on Wednesday when local residents ate food donated in the morning, reports said.

The patients developed symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea at around 8pm local time, news agency Xinhua reported.

The patients were rushed to Taungoo General Hospital, where 68 were admitted as outpatients and 65 as inpatients. The hospital said 41 of these patients were discharged after recovery on Thursday morning.

In another incident, more than 100 people in Tatkon town of Nay Pyi Taw were hospitalised with food poisoning.

The country's health ministry has urged local and health authorities in flood-affected areas to ensure that donated food is safe and hygienic, the report said.
