Gram lentils (as per your choice) – 150 gms
Tomatoes – 2
Onion – 1
Desi Ghee – 2 tbsp
Ginger
Green chillies – 2
Spices
Coriander powder – 1 tablespoon
Salt – to taste

Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tablespoon
Asafoetida – 1/8 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp

To fry the lentils, first soak them for four to five hours. – After soaking them well, put two cups of water, turmeric and salt as per taste in the cooker and put it on the gas. After the first whistle, reduce the gas to medium and then let it whistle for four more. When it is cooked, remove the lentils from the gas.

– When the lentils cool down, prepare the masala for frying. To prepare this masala, heat two spoons of ghee in a pan. – When the ghee is hot, add bay leaves and fry them. – After this, add chopped onion, green chilli, grated ginger in the pan and fry till it turns golden. – When the masala is fried, add chopped tomatoes to it.

– After this, add garam masala, coriander powder and turmeric powder in the pan and cook well. When the tomatoes melt and mix with the spices, add boiled gram lentils in the pan and finally heat ghee in the pan. Fry red chillies, asafoetida and cumin seeds in hot ghee. Dal fry is ready. Serve it with rice or roti.
