On match fixing, DSA President Anuj Gupta said, 'We will not delay in taking strict action'

New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS) Ahead of the start of the Delhi Premier League 2024, Delhi Soccer Association President Anuj Gupta spoke on maintaining the integrity of the game. He also spoke openly on the news of match fixing that surfaced in the second season of the tournament and said that he would not hesitate to take strict action against these things.

“This will not be tolerated at all. There is a process in which notices will be given to all the clubs that are involved. This will be presented before the disciplinary committee and then a decision will be taken. It is important to follow the process, but as a president I promise that we will not hesitate to take strict action,” Anuj Gupta told reporters at a press conference.

He further said, “We have banned Ahbab Football Club but as per the rule, a club can be banned only till the AGM and after that the matter is discussed. We had filed a complaint with the Anti Corruption Bureau and an FIR was lodged on that complaint. Now the case is being investigated by the police and once they reveal the report on the charge sheet, the disciplinary committee will take its decision and inform the concerned clubs about its decision.”

In February, a video of players scoring an own goal while the team was leading 4-0 went viral on social media. In response, the DSA suspended Ahbab Football Club and the governing body also banned ten players.

Anuj said, “The goal (viral video) which everyone saw was a very sad moment. We are giving our best for the development of football and then something like this happens, it is very disappointing. We have banned 10 players, which has happened for the first time in the history of DSA. This time our effort is that if any such report comes, then the players and the club will be given a show cause notice so that we can end it soon.”

The third season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) is going to start from September 26 at the Ambedkar Stadium. This is the highest level football tournament in Delhi.

The tournament is organised by the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA), the governing body of football in Delhi and a member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
