Mahindra Thar Rocks 4×4 was launched with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Its manual variant engine generates 150 bhp and 330 Nm of peak torque. At the same time, its 4×4 automatic variant generates 172 bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque. It has Mahindra's 4XPLOR system, which provides electronic locking differential and terrain mode. Along with this, Mahindra Thar Rocks has a CrawlSmart feature, which allows the driver to maintain a stable low speed without keeping the foot on the accelerator pedal.
